Intro about how solid wood is a timeless and reliable worktop choice, that can suit many styles of kitchen and home. We offer many species of wood in varying sizes and thicknesses here that all make for fantastic work surfaces, with shades and finishes to suit every décor. We offer a templating and fitting service, where we will handle your surfaces with care and precision to make sure your bespoke wooden worktops are the perfect fit in your home. All work is done and handmade in our factory. We also offer a supply only surface if all you need is consultation and a local supplier.

Is solid wood right for your kitchen?

Solid wood fits beautifully in many different styles of home, not just country kitchens. There are considerations and of course limitations (see pros and cons below). Solid wood offers warm textures and warmer surfaces to dine on than traditional stone. Solid wood requires a little maintenance around moisture areas, but if looked after well, can last a lifetime. Solid wood is incredibly heard-wearing and stain resistant if treated properly, along with its anti-bacterial properties. If you are looking for a worktop that has more of a luxurious and authentic feel, solid wood is the ideal choice from laminate.

Pros and cons

  • Highly durable
  • Highly stain resistant (if oiled/ treated)
  • Scratches can be buffed out (although a professional is often needed for this)
  • Requires maintenance: Oiling 2-3 times a year, especially around moisture areas.
  • Can be oiled/ treated to give a different tone/ colour to compliment your palette
  • Under-mounted sinks are an option
  • Drainer grooves are a possible feature
  • Available in different sizes and thicknesses
  • Wood is directional, so corners can look busy
  • Beautiful, natural material
  • Anti-bacterial qualities
  • Neat but visible joins

Cost

Solid wood is a fantastic choice for a mid-range budget. It costs more than a laminate worktop due to it’s many advantages over laminate worktops (as listed above), but will not cost as much as natural stone or Corian worktops. Solid wood is a great investment for any home. Contact us for more information

How It Works
