Criteria for dental surfaces within practices

Hygiene Above All Else

The number one priority when choosing surfaces for a dental practice is hygiene. Every countertop, sink, and join must withstand constant sterilisation, chemical use, and high traffic throughout the day.

Our solid surface dental worktops are designed specifically for these environments — seamless, non-porous, and easy to clean. If you’re planning your own surgery refurbishment, we’re happy to advise on the most suitable materials for your project.

Why use Solid Surfacing Company for your dental worktops and surfaces?

Over 30 Years of Expertise in Dental Worktops

As a family-run business, we’ve been fabricating and fitting solid surface worktops for dental practices and healthcare settings for over three decades. Our dedicated team of fabricators, fitters, and designers handle every stage of production — from templating to installation.

With more than 250 dental practice refurbishments completed nationwide, we understand the importance of precision, scheduling, and minimal disruption in clinical environments.

What materials are suitable for dental worktops?

Choosing the Right Material

Dental surgery worktops must combine durability with hygiene. We work with a small selection of trusted materials proven to perform in healthcare environments:

  • Solid Surface – non-porous, repairable, and completely seamless.

  • Solid Grade Laminate – durable and cost-effective.

  • Stainless Steel – hardwearing and chemical resistant, ideal for laboratories.

Of these, solid surface is the preferred choice for most dental practices due to its hygiene credentials, smooth finish, and ability to be formed seamlessly without joints.

Why does the dental industry trust solid surface?

Solid surface material has properties that are totally unique and highly convenient for dental practices. We have broken down the many advantageous features of solid surface dental worktops below;

Durability

Built to withstand constant use, solid surface resists scratches, impact, and chemical exposure - perfect for busy surgeries.

Non-Porous & Waterproof

Liquids and chemicals can’t penetrate the surface, ensuring a sterile, wipe-clean environment.

Seamless joins

Unique to solid surface, joins are blended until invisible, leaving no dirt traps or bacteria-prone gaps.

Anti-Bacterial by Design

The smooth, non-porous surface makes bacteria growth almost impossible — a must for treatment areas.

Coved upstands

Our fabricators create smooth, curved upstands that eliminate right angles and make cleaning effortless.

Moulded sinks

Seamless, integrated sinks reduce bacteria build-up and meet HTM hygiene standards - a preferred solution for dental practices.

Case Study: Bespoke Moulded Sinks - Malvern Dental Practice

When a long-standing client needed custom solid surface sinks for two dental surgeries in Malvern, we stepped in to design and fabricate a made-to-measure solution.

Prefabricated bowls couldn’t meet the size or design requirements, so our team built new sinks from sheet material, ensuring perfect drainage, strength, and a seamless finish.

The result: fully integrated, non-overflow sinks - compliant with dental hygiene standards and perfectly matched to the practice’s Cotton White worktops.

Our clients were delighted with the craftsmanship and attention to detail - a result we’re proud to add to our 250+ completed dental fit-outs.

Dental sink requirements

Built for Daily Use

Dental surgery sinks are used constantly throughout the day and must withstand frequent cleaning, chemical exposure, and high temperatures. Every element — from the basin shape to the joint finish — needs to be designed for durability and easy maintenance.

Hygiene and Compliance

Dental practices are required to maintain sinks that are easy to disinfect and compliant with HTM 64 and HTM 63 hygiene standards. For this reason, we supply no-overflow sinks only. Overflow holes are a known hygiene risk, as they trap moisture and bacteria that are difficult to remove even with regular cleaning.

Bespoke vs Prefabricated Sinks

Most solid surface brands offer prefabricated sinks, typically in white or off-white finishes. These work well for kitchens and bathrooms but can be restrictive for dental use. When space or specification demands something different, our fabricators create fully bespoke sinks from sheet material, giving complete control over shape, size, and colour.

Each custom sink is templated, fabricated, and coved by hand to remove right-angled corners and seams where bacteria could gather. It’s a detailed process that ensures perfect drainage, strength, and longevity — and it’s one of the reasons we’re trusted by dental fit-out companies nationwide.

Seamless and Safe

Using the same solid surface material for both sink and worktop allows for a completely seamless, watertight join. This prevents dirt traps, simplifies cleaning, and achieves a smooth, integrated finish that meets the strict hygiene demands of a modern dental surgery.
